After reviewing the common crowd-funding platforms available, we found that GoFundMe has the lowest overall fee structure. Therefore, a larger percent of member contributions will go to actually building the indoor pickleball facility.
The terms and conditions of GoFundMe require that funds be withdrawn within a certain time period of the first donation. We've negotiated with GoFundMe to have approximately 240 days to raise the funding. While funds are in the GoFundMe account, there are no fees and they can be reimbursed in full at any time. Once funds are withdrawn from GoFundMe, the platform charges a 2.9% fee and it becomes increasingly difficult to refund any contributions.
We do not want to withdraw any funds until after we are confident that we have enough financial support to complete the facility. In the event that we do not reach our financial goals by June 21, 2026, a full refund will be provided to all members from the GoFundMe platform.
If we raise the full funding goal before June 21, 2026, then we can move up the timeline and immediately begin looking for local properties to purchase and begin soliciting bids from contractors to construct the building. This ultimately means that the facility will open to the public earlier than currently estimated.
The preliminary budget listed here includes a 10% contingency for possible inflation or unforeseen expenses. In the event that construction expenses exceed the planned contingency, some items in the budget may be delayed until after opening as long as they do not impact the operation of the facility. Budget items that could possibly be delayed so that the facility can be completed for public access include benches, office fit-out, landscaping, interior wall finish, and painting.
If we do not raise the full funding goal by June 21, 2026, then all donations will be refunded in full from GoFundMe.
In the event that we raised most of the funding, the Centre Court Pickleball LLC team will perform value engineering on the current facility design until the budget matches the amount of money previously donated. Value engineering may include decreasing the number of courts, decreasing the size of the building, changing from prefabricated metal to wood construction, and reducing the parking lot and outdoor areas. Once a new facility plan has been created, we will present the new plan to the public and re-open donations for the revised facility. If our members think that the new facility will still meet their needs, then we should theoretically be able to collect all the required funding in a short time and proceed with construction.
